TheInsAndOuts...
People think morris dancing is a dance which involves men dancing round poles with handkerchiefs and clogs ... but it's not lol.
The type of morris dancing we do is a dance usually lasting around 5/7 minutes. We dance in line usually of about 4-10 girls from age 3 upwards.
Competitions are held where different troupes compete against each other.
We dance   to taped music of the trainers choice,   it is played on a variable speed tape recorder, which can alter the music faster or slower to suit each troupe, this is also the trainers choice.
Our uniforms are completely different to mens morris dancing.   We wear white pumps with bells attached to the laces and ankle or knee high socks.   We wear dresses and headdresses. The dresses must be identical with the exception of the leader and mascot.

We use shakers/pom poms (similar to cheer leaders).

At competitions there are different sections.

Babies     up to 6 years

Dinkies   up to 9 years

Tinies       up to 11 years

Juniors     up to 15 years

Seniors     Any age

At competitions there are 2 or 3 judges who judge each troupe in the different sections.   We are marked on the judging card for:-

Entry

Costumes

Timing & Rhythm

Entertainment Value

Formation & Dancing

Deportment

Exit

Leader

Mascot

I hope this has helped ... (we don't dance round poles with hankies and clogs and are certainly not men! haha!)
